Get Review:

Westinghouse WGen5300s model.

I had to rely a lot on the user manual, but I got it. Requires easy installation (just attach wheels and footrest). From there, add your oil (it comes with an oil funnel and a quart of 10W30 oil), then add your gasoline.

The battery comes pre-installed with some charge and there are two cables that slide in easily to complete the battery connection.

I had a small problem locating the fuel shutoff valve and choke lever (the manual diagram indicated they were on the wheel side for the 6000/7500, but they are actually on the opposite side of the foot stand as shown in the picture ). Once you figure this out, it's not that hard to find them. Both are factory set to the off position.

Anyone who works with small engines will have no problem!

The electric start worked pretty fast so the battery arrives with some charge (or mine).

I plugged in a work light to make sure power was being supplied and the light was working properly. I was able to turn the choke off in 10-15 seconds or so.

First I let mine run for about 15 minutes (I assume the battery charges as it runs). I've read that generators should be tested monthly to keep them in good working order (run the generator for about 15 minutes a month). I turned the fuel valve "off" again when I finished my first run (login and specify if you should leave it "on" permanently - thanks!

I can imagine a woman 50 and older with no small engine experience who can locate the lamp, oil/gas fill, choke lever, and fuel shut-off valve (valve must be on to start). also for a cold start) then ANYONE can get this generator to work. And probably in less time than I needed (probably 20 minutes from when I unpacked it until it started working).

Time will tell if this proves to be a reliable and long-lasting generator, but I bought the 4-year warranty and Westinghouse has an excellent reputation in the industry. My research shows that Westinghouse doesn't just put its label on these generators, they are the actual manufacturer!

Westinghouse WGen5300s Generator is a somewhat noisy generator, but compared to my neighbor's generator, it is quieter than theirs. This is to be expected: you will hear that this thing works; I'm in a brick house with plaster walls and shutters; the generator was running in a garage with no accessories 15 meters from the house (garage door is open, don't turn it on without ventilation!) and I could still hear from my house.

If I notice mine developing early issues or failing in my time of need despite regular maintenance, I'll be happy to update my review and change the stars. But I think this will be good equipment for many years of service and very useful for using my freezer during power outages.
