Get rating:
I bought this unit for an occasional power outage and used it twice for 3 hours without power plus about 20 short runs to test it out and hook it up to the house. I don't have long-term use but when I needed it worked perfectly. I used it to power a 36000 BTU (3.5 tons) central air conditioner along with a 2 hp pump.
I turned on the central air first and then added the pump charge along with a few miscellaneous small charges. The operating load for all of this was about 6kW, well within the limits of the generator, but my original question was whether the generator could handle the A/C starting load and the pump's starting load with the A/C running. . Those short initial costs can be 3 to 5 times the operating costs. The generator slowed down for a second or two, but after that, it could handle the load with ease.
Other notes:
A-iPower SUA2000i INVERTER GENERATOR is the manual is clear and contains complete schematics of the electrical system. The unit seems well built with a solid frame and a solid folding handle. It started with the first pull and starts quickly with the electric starter. The voltage was 121 volts at no load and 119 at half load.
The frequency of the light load is 60.5 Hz. It is quite loud with a combination of mechanics, air intake, and well-muffled exhaust note, but I thought it was reasonable for the size. At least it won't be in your living room. The only thing it lacks is load metering, but that comes with more expensive units.
In short, a good quality device for a very reasonable price.
I measured the frequency with a more accurate meter and found that the unit ran at 62.5 Hz with almost no variation from a 200-watt load to a 4000-watt load.
This small error (4%) was the reason why an APC 550VA Back-UPS Battery Backup and Surge Protector (BE550G) does not constantly pass the load to the generator but instead alternates every 10 seconds between the power generator and the internal battery. current, eventually draining your battery. A replacement Tripp lite unit purchased from Amazon will work just fine and happen to be charged at the generator.
