Introduction:
Yamaha EF2000iSv2 generator is great. It starts out really easy so the wife can use it when I'm not around. We live on the Gulf Coast and it's nice to know I have something to run my fridge so I don't lose my food and turn on the TV to find out what's going on in the area. It is also very quiet.
You can hear it running, but it's not quite distracting like the larger units. I also think for my usage which would probably be about 1 hour a day if there is a power outage, the low fuel consumption will be amazing.

Review Round:
I've spent quite a bit of time looking for a lightweight portable generator for camping with my small travel trailer, as well as for use around the house, such as using power tools, lights, and remote plugs in my shed and charging from my tractor battery.
Big contenders in this class are this unit and the 2000 watt Honda inverter generator. I chose the Yamaha after several features were highlighted:
1. The fuel cut-off allows the carburetor to run dry, which helps prevent starting problems after extended storage.
2. The carb drain removes every drop of fuel for even longer storage. (as in winter).
3. Gear-driven valve train instead of belt-driven.
4. Vent cap that can be closed to prevent fuel spillage and fuel level indicator on the cap.
Prices were competitive and key features were similar, but the Yamaha just stood out as a complete machine for about the same price. These small units are no fun with the larger A/C units in RVs, but they will work with my small RV A/C unit, although it won't work with the A/C and microwave at the same time. It has also been very useful for chores around the house. I have a large shed a few hundred yards from the house, and I've added a simple electrical system for lighting and outlets, with a control box with 2 switches and an extension that plugs into the generator outside the shed. When the generator is running, the shed becomes a remote workshop.
As with most inverter-type generator systems, this unit is very quiet, especially when placed in economy mode. The main advantage of inverter technology is that the motor can vary in speed depending on the load, resulting in low noise and fuel consumption. The Yamaha snare dampens the sound output well and the controls respond quickly to an increase in demand. I haven't had any instances of the device shutting down due to over-demand.
Yamaha EF2000iSv2 generator comes with all necessary accessories, including a DC battery charging cable and a spark plug wrench. No oil is included, so a quick trip to the auto department is needed to get a gallon of oil.
The Yamaha EF2000iSv2 generator is light enough for my wife to move around and the large, comfortable handle provides a good grip. All the controls are grouped at the starter, although you do need to tilt the unit back so you can see which button you're pressing. Economy mode and on/off switches are covered with a protective rubber membrane to prevent water ingress.
Yamaha EF2000iSv2 generator has a manual choke. It's a little tricky to get started, as you have to make sure multiple switches are in the correct position, the gas cap vent is open, and the gas valve is open, and the choke is set. I'd like to say it always starts with a jolt, but since I run out of gas in the cab when I'm done using it, it takes several puffs to fill the carburetor and start the engine, but it starts reliably, even at colder temperatures.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and can recommend it to anyone who needs a lightweight portable air conditioning power supply.
